Friday Sailing Details

Spring Session, January 12 - May 25th

The Friday Sailing Program is open to all level youth sailors. From beginners to advanced racers, there is a spot for you to join. Opti trainers, Optimists and CFJ's are available to anyone wanting to come down. Fridays are a great way to lead young sailors into the CBYC advanced team. This is a fun after school program that runs all year long!

On the registration there are two options, one is for Friday sailing only classes, and the other is for our Opti race team. The Opti race team is for anyone, ages 8-13, that has already passed our beginner class! For that group we sail every Friday and Saturday. The goal for this group is to take all sailors who have an interest in learning to race and progressing to the elite levels of the sport!

Scholarships

Everyone can enjoy the sport of sailing. Scholarships are a great way to help everyone get out on the water. To apply for a scholarship please complete the application at the link below. There is a $50 scholarship available to anyone who writes a nice letter about sailing, or our program to the Cabrillo Beach Youth Sailing Foundation.

Schedule Spring Semester 2024

Friday sailing schedule is divided into two semesters. Semester two will begin January 12th and conclude May 25th, Friday's from 3-6 at Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. No Sailing on school holidays and breaks.

Equipment

Opti Trainers will be used for beginning sailors. The Opti Trainers are a durable plastic version of the Optimist.

The Optimist, used by advanced sailors, is designed to be safe, durable and competitive. The skills the Optimist fosters can be directly translated into other classes later on.

Students will be responsible for personal equipment including PFD (life vest).
